Jedi is a Patent and Trademark Attorney registered to practice law in Utah and before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). His entire career has been focused on helping startups, small businesses, and entrepreneurs navigate the US patent system, from drafting patent applications and advising on patent strategies to responding to letters from the USPTO. Jedi is experienced handling patents on a wide range of technologies, including mechanical devices, machine learning and artificial intelligence, automotive technologies, materials science, medical devices, wireless networking, oil industry technologies, and wireless networking.
Jedi has a B.S. in Physics from Brigham Young University Idaho and received his law degree from BYU’s J. Reuben Clark Law School. During law school, he was involved extensively with various programs, including the Student Intellectual Property Law Association, the Intellectual Property Moot Court, and the International Center for Law and Religion. Jedi also performed original research, applying natural language processing and corpus linguistics techniques to understanding and framing contemporary legal questions. As an undergraduate, Jedi developed and implemented machine learning techniques in conjunction with atmospheric science research.
After law school, Jedi worked as a patent consultant for a startup incubator. There, Jedi helped procure over 60 patents and patent applications, including contributing as an inventor on over 30 inventions. His experience working directly with startup founders helping those founders build patent portfolios gave him a unique and intimate perspective on how successful founders make decisions regarding intellectual property.
